FAREWELL CEREMONY OF GEOGRAPHY (HONS), SEMESTER 6 STUDENTS

SMT. ANJALI SANYAL MEMORIAL LECTURE

The Smt.Anjali Sanyal Memorial Lecture on “The Jarawas and the Andaman Islands” organized by Department of Geography and IQAC was held on 16th December 2022,”. The resource person was Dr. Sumitabha Chakraborty, Assistant Anthropologist (Cultural), Anthropological Survey of India,(Andaman Nicobar Regional Centre). The lecture was attended by 15 faculty members from our own college and one faculty member from P.N.Das College, Palta and A total of 104 students from Rishi Bankim Chandra College for Women, Rishi Bankim Chandra Evening College and P.N.Das College, Palta attended the lecture.

AN EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION TO MANGALBARI (NEAR CHALSA) IN 2022

A field trip to Mangalbari (near Chalsa) Jalpaiguri was organized for 33 students of Semester-4 Geography(Hons) students from 1st -5 th December, 2022. The field visit encompassed detailed Socio- economic survey of the villagers of Mangalbari mouza. We also tried to analyse the slope pattern in this Dooars area with Dumpy level and Prismatic Compass Survey. We have collected several soil samples from different parts of the mouza (agricultural field, peripheral area of the forest, fallow as well as from residential area) for further experiment (texture analysis, PH analysis).

AN EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION TO KOMARDUNI ( NORTH 24 PARGANAS )

A field trip to KOMARDUNI (North 24 Parganas) was organized for students of Semester-5 Geography(Hons) students on 26.8.2022. A detailed socio-economic and physical survey was conducted by the students under the guidance of faculty members of the Dept. Of Geography.

SMT. ANJALI SANYAL MEMORIAL LECTURE

Smt. Anjali Sanyal Memorial lecture was held on “Experience of Research on Tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Islands with Special Reference to Jarawas and Shompen”. The resource person was Dr. Amit Kumar Ghosh, Superintendending Anthropologist, Ministry of Culture, Government of India on 4th February 2020. He shared his valuable knowledge and adventurous experiences with the students. A total of 92 students and 22 faculty members attended the lecture.

2019

EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIP TO GALUDIH

An educational excursion to Patmahuliya Mouza (near Galudih), Jharkhand was organized in 2019. Twenty -three students of Semester -4 and four faculty members, 2 non-teaching staff accompanied the students to collect data on socio-economic features and its relation to the local physical constraints. A detailed field report was prepared comparing the secondary as well as primary data collected from field survey. Road survey, traffic flow survey during the busy hour, soil sample survey and slope analysis by dumpy level and prismatic compass was done. A detailed comparative analysis of local resident’s socio-economic condition in accordance with the physical phenomena was done.

WORKSHOP ON APPLICATION OF REMOTE SENSING AND GIS TECHNIQUES

One day workshop on Application of Remote Sensing and GIS for Environmental Mapping was held on 22nd January 2019 with a special lecture on the topic “Pixel to People”. The resource person was Dr. Debdeep Bhattacharya Faculty of East Calcutta Girls’ College, Lake Town. A total of 97 students from Dpt.of Geography and 51 participants, faculty members, PhD scholars, M.Sc. students from different universities and institutions attended the workshop .It was an highly interactive programme and was a grand success.
