Till 2006, there was no department of Urdu in Rishi Bankim Chandra College for Women, but Urdu was taught as a compulsory subject. Subsequently in 2007, Urdu department was established and in same year Urdu was introduced as a general course. So far, this Department has neither started B.A.(Hons) nor Master's Course in Urdu subject.   As our college is only for female students, therefore the girl students who want to study URDU as a subject at B.A. level may get to opt URDU as general subject at both Hons & Gen level.

The aim and motto of the department is to prepare students for the future within a success-oriented learning environment. This department consists of one permanent faculty and two Education facilitators. Till now, a lot of students have been passed out with Urdu General Course successfully and enrolled in various universities for higher studies. The report of the rate of success in Urdu General course of this department in all previous sessions is 100 %. It has own departmental library with small volume of text and reference books and also provides library facilities to the students. The Department arranges the remedial and tutorial classes for the better preparation of students. The faculties are students-friendly and assist students in their learning carefully. Department organises the Add-on certificate Course on various topics pertinent to Urdu language & literature and its social implication and application from time to time. It organises state level and college level seminars including students’ seminars frequently.
